The Bhagavata says tat te nu kampam … Tolerate the apparent unfavorable environment, knowing that you yourself are its cause. You have sewn, and you shall reap. The evil that confronts you is your own doing. Cure thyself. Find the good in others and the evil in oneself. Anyone who thinks such advice is contrary to bhakti is missing something.
One of the qualities of a devotee is “ajata satru“—he or she has no enemies. Why? Because the devotee sees only siksa gurus everywhere, teaching how to and how not to be. Make an altar for your so-called enemies. The courage to do so is what we refer to by the term anartha nivrtti.
